چکیده

1) Signal transitions provide a key to understanding the switching behavior of asynchronous logic. 2) Burst-mode circuits and speed-independent control circuits offer reliable operation that is free from glitches. 3) Various notations are available for specification of control circuitry and as a starting point for logic synthesis. 4) Bundled data and delay-insensitive coding schemes are suitable for representing data because they address the issues of data validity and completion detection. 5) Asynchronous networks, constructed from modules and channels, provide a systems architecture for asynchronous design. 6) Handshaking on channels, which controls data communication and synchronization between modules, is implemented using signal transitions. 7) The translation of algorithmic descriptions into asynchronous networks facilitates an automated approach to large-scale system design.

Behavioral Modeling and Simulation of Semiconductor Devices and Circuits Using VHDL-AMS

During the past few years, a lot of work has been done on behavioral models and simulation tools. But a need for modeling strategy still remains. The VHDL-AMS language supports the description of analog electronic circuits using Ordinary Differential Algebraic Equations (ODAEs), in addition to its support for describing discrete-event systems. For VHDL-AMS to be useful to the analog design ...

Designing Asynchronous Circuits for Low Power: An IFIR Filter Bank for a Digital Hearing Aid - Proceedings of the IEEE

This paper addresses the design of asynchronous circuits for low power through an example: a filter bank for a digital hearing aid. The asynchronous design re-implements an existing synchronous circuit which is used in a commercial product. For comparison, both designs have been fabricated in the same 0.7m CMOS technology. When processing typical data (less than 50-dB sound pressure), the async...

Guest Editors' Introduction: More Practical Asynchronous Design

NEC USA Inc. IT OWES US OREAT PLEASURE to present the final three articles of our special issue on Asynchronous Circuits and Systems. Due to the large number of highquality articles received and the limited amount of space, we have published these articles serially starting with the Summer 1994 issue of IEEE Design & Test ofComputers. These last three articles focus on more theoretiabled them t...

Testing Asynchronous Circuits: Help is on the Way!

Testing of asynchronous circuits is considered to be a difficult task. The presence of asynchronous components in an Integrated Circuit (IC), let alone the whole IC itself, sends shivers into any test manager. This general sense of difficulty can be attributed to lack of understanding, lack of interest, lack of support from various players in the testing game including Automated Test Equipment ...

Design of Asynchronous Circuits Using Synchronous CAD Tools

0740-7475/02/$17.00 © 2002 IEEE July–August 2002 EDA FLOWS are industry driven, and thus use synchronous methodologies as de facto standards. However, implementation problems arise from imposing a synchronous model of operation on deep-submicron circuits. This problem motivates the investigation of other, asynchronous modes of operation. Acceptance of new design methodologies, including asynchr...
